MOTHER'S DAY

The youngest mother whose history is authenticated is Lina Medina, who delivered a 6˝-pound boy by cesarean section in Lima, Peru in 1939, at an age of 5 years and 7 months. The child was raised as her brother and only discovered that Lina was his mother when he was 10.

On April 9, 2003, Satyabhama Mahapatra, a 65-year-old retired schoolteacher in India, became the world's oldest mother when she gave birth to a baby boy. Satyabhama and her husband had been married 50 years, but this is their first child. The baby was conceived through artificial insemination using eggs from the woman's 26-year-old niece, , and the sperm of the niece’s husband.

Jayne Bleackley is the mother who holds the record for the shortest interval between two children born in separate confinements. She gave birth to Joseph Robert on September 3, 1999, and Annie Jessica Joyce on March 30, 2000. The babies were born 208 days apart.

Elizabeth Ann Buttle is the mother who holds the record for the longest interval between the birth of two children. She gave birth to Belinda on May 19,1956 and Joseph on November 20, 1997. The babies were born 41 years 185 days apart. The mother was 60 years old when her son Joseph was born.

The highest officially recorded number of children born to one mother is 69, to the first wife of Feodor Vassilyev (1707-1782) of Shuya, Russia. Between 1725 and 1765, in a total of 27 confinements, she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets, and four sets of quadruplets. 67 of them survived infancy.

ED NOTE: Send me your questions or comments via email and I will answer them.

My congrats to everybody who won a coveted Dudley Award last month, and also my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to The McCarty Metro. I know I am so grateful for my lifetime achievement Dudley that I remodeled one of our bedrooms into a trophy room. I purchased a beautiful mahogony desk with built-in glass case in order to display my Dudley, right next to my floor hockey award. Will my Dudley be arriving soon? Grateful in GR.

ED NOTE: Yes... I believe his plane is landing from the middle east as we speak, and he's gonna stay with you a long long time. (and please, don't wreck his car)

Also, as a McCarty Metro bonus, sent directly from Grand Rapids is the video below from the other Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Ohhhh... The Dudleys are a beautiful thing.

DATELINE: 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING

In 1982, a local Detroit talk show host, Rockin Rob, invited two young up and coming musicians to be on his television talk show. He sent a camera crew to film them in concert, and then the next night had them on his TV show. That was the first break for Brad Savage and Eric Swan and their rock& roll band "Brad Savage & The Cockroaches" as they promoted their brand new record. Fast forward 30 years, and Jerry McCarty received an email from a teenage girl telling him that Rockin Rob was her dad, and she saw the original interview on YouTube. That prompted a reunion of sorts for the interviewer, and one of the interviewees as Brad Savage and Rockin Rob sat down over cocktails at Cheli's Chili Bar in Sterling Heights to reminisce about that interview 30 years earlier. Although, no longer a TV talk show host, Rob still resides in the Detroit area and works for a national computer company. It was a good evening and many good memories were brought back to both.

AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last. Date: 2011-11-27, 1:43 am

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend was happy that I just returned safely from my 2nd tour as a Combat Marine in Afghanistan. She had just bought me that Kimber Custom Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn't it?

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with crap in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again]. After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 153 gallons and was extremely grateful! I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!] I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car. Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target. The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.). In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you, but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours, Semper Fi, Alex

AND FINALLY - AND IT FLOATS

USS REAGAN

Seeing it next to the Arizona Memorial really puts its size into perspective. When the Bridge pipes 'Man the Rail' there is a lot of rail to man on this monster: shoulder to shoulder, around 4.5 acres. Displacement is about 100,000 tons / full complement. Top speed exceeds 30 knots, powered by two nuclear reactors that can operate for more than 20 years without refueling. Expected to operate in the fleet for about 50 years. Carries over 80 combat aircraft. 3 arresting cables can stop a 28 ton aircraft going 150 miles per hour in less than 400 feet. Towers 20 stories above the waterline. 1092 feet long; nearly as long as the Empire State Building is tall. Flight deck covers 4.5 acres. 4 bronze propellers, each 21 feet across, weighing 66,200 pounds. 2 rudders, each 29 by 22 feet and weighing 50 tons. 4 high speed aircraft elevators, each over 4,000 square feet. Home to about 6,000 Navy personnel. Carries enough food and supplies to operate for 90 days. 18,150 meals served daily. Distillation plants provide 400,000 gallons of fresh water from sea water daily, enough for 2,000 homes. Nearly 30,000 light fixtures and 1,325 miles of cable and wiring 1,400 phones. 14,000 pillowcases and 28,000 sheets

USS BILL CLINTON

The USS William Jefferson Clinton (CVS1) set sail today from its home port of Vancouver, BC. The ship is the first of its kind in the Navy and is a standing legacy to President Bill Clinton 'for his foresight in military budget cuts' and his conduct while holding the (formerly dignified) office of President. It is constructed nearly entirely from recycled aluminum and is completely solar powered with a top speed of 5 knots. It boasts an arsenal comprised of one (unarmed) F14 Tomcat or one (unarmed) F18 Hornet aircraft which, although they cannot be launched on the 100 foot flight deck, form a very menacing presence. As a standing order, there are no firearms allowed on board. This crew, like the crew aboard the USS Jimmy Carter, is specially trained to avoid conflicts and appease any and all enemies of the United States at all costs. An onboard Type One DNC Universal Translator can send out messages of apology in any language to anyone who may find America offensive. The number of apologies are limitless and though some may seem hollow and disingenuous, the Navy advises all apologies will sound very sincere. In times of conflict, the USS Clinton has orders to seek refuge in Canada.

USS BARACK OBAMA

Details are vague. But don't you worry...  he has a plan
