Hello Metro family and friends! Since the next edition will be coming out in December (our annual Christmas issue), I want to wish you and yours an early Spooky Halloween and a Happy Thanksgiving Day. Stay safe out there in McCarty Metroland!

October starts my 32nd consecutive year as the editor of the McCarty Metro. After stints as the paper Metro editor in the 1960s and 70s, and producer of several video Metros in the 80s and 90s, I printed the first computer edition in October 1992. Thank you to all who have contributed over the years as well as all of you reading this. Without your support, the Metro would not have grown so much. I really appreciate all of you!

Margaret and I took a trip on our 39th anniversary up to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. We also spent a day cruising on the St. Mary's River through the Soo Locks. We had a wonderful time, even though there were a lot of misadventures on the trip. What kinda sucked too was that Margaret got sick the day after we got home and tested positive for Covid. I am sure years down the line, the misadventures we had and illness afterward will be just a fleeting memory, and we will only remember fondly all the love we have for each other.

The following week, I was supposed to have my second right should surgery, but that got postponed as I then tested positive for Covid. The new surgery day is set for November. The shoulder DID hold up well later in September as we had a brothers' golf showdown, and the team of Steve and myself defeated the team of Rick and Larry (who flew up from Nashville) on the final hole at the Wyndgate Country Club. Always great hanging out with my bros!

I heard that Stephanie's father, Thomas Frank Lech, passed away on September 26. Out sincere condolences goes out to Stephanie and the entire Lech family in this difficult time. Rest in Peace Tom!

Our annual McCarty Metro Las Vegas (VBV19) trip is tentatively scheduled for January 17-21. Everyone makes their own travel and accommodations but we generally stay mid-strip in the Harrah's, Link, Flamingo area. If you are interested in going this year, just let me know, and I can keep you in the loop on the status of the trip. We always have a great time.

Finally, once again, thank you all for stopping by spending a few minutes with me and my family. I hope you enjoy each edition of the McCarty Metro as much as I enjoy bringing it to you. A reminder that Veteran's Day is November 11, and in honor of it, I would like everyone to thank a military veteran either active or retired. Also, give thanks and say a prayer for those who are no longer with us. God bless all the men and women who have fought for the rights of everyone. They are all heroes.

The final thought I leave you is a story about the importance of keeping your tank full. Enjoy!

RUNNING ON EMPTY!

.

The whole world paused this morning.

Do you know why? Because an 8 year old’s tank was empty.

The boys had already started their school day at their desks and I was preparing to leave for work when I noticed my littlest standing in the bathroom wiping his face.

I paused at the door and asked if he was okay. He looked up with tears silently dripping and shook his head. When I questioned if something happened, again he shook his head.

So I sat on the side of the tub and pulled him in my lap. I told him sometimes our heart tanks feel empty and need to be refilled.

He cried into my chest and I held tight. I asked if he could feel my love filling him up? A nod, and tears stopped...

I waited a minute...

‘Has it reached your toes yet?’

He shook his head no...

‘Okay big man. We will take as long as you need. Work doesn’t matter right now. School isn’t important either. This right here, is the most important thing today, okay? Filling you back to the top. Is that good?’

*nods*

One more minute...

‘Is your heart full of mamas love now?’

‘Yeah...’

*looks in his eyes* I see it shining in there, you’re full to the top, and you’re smiling!

You may not be 8 years old. You may be 17, 35, 48, 6T4 or whatever - ALL of us run on empty sometimes just like he did. His weekend was so busy and so full and his little soul was just dry!!!

We all have to pause, and take a moment to refill with the good things. Prayer, sunshine, worship, song, laughter, friends, hugs. Refill your empty tank, or you’ll find those emotions (tears, anger, snappy words) overflowing with no reason why.

.

Here's to taking a moment to check your level and refill your tank.
It's the most important part of the day!
