Productions and The McCarty Metro, are pleased to
announce the 8th annual McCarty Metro Film
Project. The event will take place from May 12
thru May 19, 2019 and is open to everyon. We
are looking for people get an idea of a film in
accordance with the rules posted on this website
on May 12, then over the next 7 days, write, act,
direct and produce a short 4 minute or less movie
and submit it to the McCarty Metro by 11:59 pm
Sunday May 19. Hope to see lots of entries...

Toast To Jerry was held in honor of Jerry
McCarty on Saturday, March 2 at Danny J's Brick
Tavern in downtown Utica. Over 150 family and
friends gathered to salute, toast, and say goodbye to
Jerry who passed away on December 17th in
California. A moving and beautiful mass was said
in early January in Santa Clarita, California,
but this night was a chance for all of Jerry's
Michigan contingent to celebrate Jerry's life.
People traveled from across the country and from
around the world to celebrate this great man.
Brad
Savage started the evening with a
prayer, shared some of his favorite
memories of Jerry, and offered up the
first toast. Throughout the night,
Zodiac Entertainment provided music and
Karaoke for the guests. Karaoke was
something Jerry loved to do, and the
McCartys and friends did not disappoint
as many got up to sing and/or pay
tribute to Jerry.

old friends, sharing stories, and
singing... A fitting tribute to Jerry. I
would like to thank all who helped with
the evening and all who attended. Below

Editor
Kelly McCarty underwent successful left knee
replacement surgery on March 14. After a night in
the hospital, Margaret brought him home where he
started his healing and physical therapy. As of
the writing of this, Kelly is still off work, but
looking forward to getting back to his day
job.

McCarty is a Graduate Jeweler! He worked hard on a very intense course at the Gemological Institute of America. His instructors said so many great things about him. What a tremendous achievement, especially considering living on his own and dealing with Jerry’s illness and passing.
Kathlene is SO proud.

DATELINE: ORIGINAL METRO HQ BLIGHT
The McCarty Metro started
underneath the basement steps at 9323 Sussex in the early
1960s. When the McCartys moved out in 1972, the house was
still immaculate. Unfortunately, over the many years, what
once was a wonderful home is now just a shell of itself,
adding to the blight in Detroit. Below are photos taken in
1967, 2014, and just recently in March of 2019 by Larry
McCarty.

Dear Editor: I have a history question: When did the McCarty Metro go online? Before you became editor, Dennis published the Metro under the basement steps, but he used a typewriter, I think.
-History Buff in Hudsonville, Mich.

NOTE: In talking with the first editor, he believes he
made the first issue in 1963. You are right in that the
first issues were created on typewriter and reproduced using
carbon paper. I resurrected the Metro in the 1990s. The
first edition that I put out was a paper edition created on
my computer and reproduced on a dot matrix printer. The
first on-line edition was put out in September, 1998.

Editor: I need the Metro to solve a mystery. As I recall at Easter, we would dye eggs and after dying those eggs, my mother would wipe the eggs with Crisco to give them a shine and then leave the eggs sit out in a basket on the table for the next several days while we ate those eggs for lunch. The mystery question, those eggs were not refrigerated, so why didn't we get salmonella poisoning or some other disease? -Hard Boiled Down South

NOTE: I believe since the egg was fully cooked
(boiled), you would not get salmonella. That would be from
'raw' product. However, I don't agree with your notion that
we didn't get something else... Do you remember the smell of
those farts afterwards? That really WAS a mystery. .

Editor: As a child, I would set my empty Easter Basket out the night before Easter when I went to bed and when I awoke on Easter morning my basket would be gone and hidden somewhere in the house. Now as a grown-ass man, I tried this last year and my empty basket was exactly where I left it when I awoke. I didn't see anything on the news, did the Easter Bunny die? -Needing Jelly Beans

the fireworks this year, but it was unsuccessful.

Editor: Yesterday my wife was hard boiling eggs so the grandbrats could color them when they come over on Easter. She peeled one egg while on the phone so I could eat it but then we spent the next 20 minutes searching for where she left the egg after peeling it. We found it in a cupboard in a bowl. Should I be concerned for my wife or happy that she can hide her own Easter Eggs? -Glad we Found it Before it Smelled

It would have been found eventually next Easter, and
she would have just fed it to you then. (and nobody
would be the wiser)

3 mashed bananas (ripe)
1/3 cup apple sauce
2 cups oats
1/4 cup almond milk
1/4 cup raisins or nuts
1 cup chocolate chunks
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
Preheat
oven to 350 degrees. Combine all the ingredients listed
above and form into cookie size portions on a greased
baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Let cool and
enjoy!
