FEBRUARY 2008

By Kelly McCarty

We at the Metro are shocked and profoundly saddened by the news of the passing of Patrick Mack. It seems impossible to speak or write of any consolation in the face of such a bitter loss. Margaret and I wish to extend our sincere condolences to wife Stephanie, and parents Dan and Mary Jo, and to let you know that we are thinking of you during your time of great sorrow.

I would also like to welcome Josh, Paul, Julie, John, and Nancy to our family as new subscribers. Glad to have you. I hope I get to see a lot of our readers at the first Texas Hold em / Chili Cookoff held on February 28. Remember, you can download the flyer, and pass them around to family, friends, and coworkers. It should be a fun evening, and a great fundraiser for the Lupus Alliance of Michigan.

.
What a hectic couple of months. Christmas and New Year's were a blast. We had a full house again. All the kids were home, and Chris proposed to Amanda on Christmas Eve. The Vegas trip (VBVIV) was a total blast. Work has been eventful to say the least as our school district's bond approval steps up with more new computers and servers coming in. The weather this past month has been bitterly cold. It has been difficult to get out and walk with the cold and ice being the issue. Currently, I am down 30 pounds since October. Hopefully February will be a little kinder to me.

For my final thoughts this month, and in honor of President's Day in February, I would like to share some quotes from the Commander-in-Chief in the 1980's. President Ronald Reagan served for 2 terms, and had the highest approval rating of any sitting President since the polls came out. Whether you agreed or disagreed politically, no one can dispute Ron's integrity, patriotism, and true love for his family and his country. Enjoy these words of wisdom and a blast from the past from one of the best.

Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose."
- Ronald Reagan

"The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
- Ronald Reagan

"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant: It's just that they know so much that isn't so."
- Ronald Reagan

"Of the four wars in my lifetime none came about because the U.S. was too strong."
- Ronald Reagan

"I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandment's would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress."
- Ronald Reagan

"The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination."
- Ronald Reagan

"Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other."
- Ronald Reagan

"If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."
- Ronald Reagan

"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."
- Ronald Reagan

"I've laid down the law, though, to everyone from now on about anything that happens: no matter what time it is, wake me, even if it's in the middle of a Cabinet meeting."
- Ronald Reagan

"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first."
- Ronald Reagan

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."
- Ronald Reagan

"Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book."
- Ronald Reagan

"No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.
- Ronald Reagan

ED NOTE: Well.... There I go again!!!

Thanks to all, and have a great month.

-Kelly
