DATELINE: MCCARTY METRO NEW LOGO CONTEST

Attention all McCarty Metro readers... We need a new logo for our website. A contest is underway to create a new McCarty Metro logo that will replace the Gaelic "M" at the top of the Metro. Shown to the left is the current logo, and to the left of that was the McCarty crest logo which donned the pages in 2013. Your job is to create an original McCarty Metro logo, and attach the file in an email to me at mccartymetro@gmail.com. The contest ends on Sunday, September 27 at 9pm Eastern Time. Good luck to everyone.

DATELINE: MCCARTY FAMILY REUNION

A summer picnic / McCarty family reunion was held at Dan and Mary Jo's house on August 15. Many of the cousins were there, celebrating the event, catching up, and sharing stories from days gone by. It was a beautiful day, and all who attended had a great time. We had the eldest cousin (Sister Pat McCarty), and the youngest (Olivia McCarty), kids and/or spouses and their kids from Uncle Bill, Uncle Jim, Uncle Vince, Aunt Marge, and my Dad. Can't wait until the next one. ED NOTE: I learned that Larry McCarty must have been a favorite of Uncle Jim and Aunt Mary, as many of his elementary school pictures outnumbered all other pictures that donned the McCarty Photo Board at the event.

DATELINE: GRAND RAPIDS

No, this isn't a new chapter for "Michael, Michael, Michael." Mike put on makeup in late July as part of a burn simulation for medical students in Grand Rapids. However, his faux patient cover story smacks of Mike's klutziness: Man puts more gas into his lawn mower and lights a cigarette. Which is why Mike doesn't smoke.

DATELINE: ST. IGNACE, MICHIGAN

Kelly & Margaret took a weekend trip to St. Ignace, Michigan, where they stayed at a hotel on the lake, and took a 5 hour boat tour of 5 lighthouses in the northern part of Lake Huron. It was a sunny day, however, the lake had 3-4 foot waves, which made the trip extra exciting. Sitting on the top deck of the Sheppler's Ferry, the couple (including the couple of dozen others) got soaked as the boat tore through the waves at 30mph and the spray came up high. Kelly reports though that he heard the top was the better place, as those on the lower deck inside were banging around pretty good, and several passengers down there were (to put it nicely) not feeling very well. In addition to the 5 lighthouses on the boat tour, they also went to 4 others. One in Mackinaw City, one in Lake Michigan down from the bridge, and another near Rogers City. Speaking of Rogers City, they visited with Austin and Hilary who were at her parents home. They got to meet the nicest people as well, including Mike and Ann (Hilary's parents), Brian the brother, and sister Elizabeth, husband Joe, and kids Jeremiah, Ben, and Finn. It was simply a fantastic weekend.

.

Below, we would like to share with you some of our pictures that we took of the lighthouses we saw and visited on our weekend trip up north...

CHRIS MCCARTY

Are you struggling to find a developer who understands you and your business? If you've ever hired a developer, you know how hard it can be to find someone who is reliable - someone who knows how to take a problem and solve it! And even if you find the right talent, you soon discover that they don't understand you and your business. And without an understanding of both your business and the core problems you're trying to solve, the risk that your project will fail skyrockets.

Dear Editor: While at the family reunion, I found out that the McCarty Metro first started in 1965. That means it has been around for half a century. WOW!!! What an accomplishment!!! I can't believe you guys have made it 50 years without being shut down yet. Anyway, great seeing you, and you do a tremendous job on the McCarty Metro.

ED NOTE: Thanks... I think??? We have come a long way from using a typewriter and carbon paper to being on the world wide web. I do keep some carbon paper around just to get my fingers and thumbs dirty.

We always want to hear your questions, comments, rants, or editorials.
Just submit them anytime during the month to to mccartymetro@gmail.com for inclusion in the next issue
