Huh? No banjo, but Mike rocks with Jerry.

Cockroach fans know these two as Eddie Stein and Eric Swan. Want in, Brad Savage?

I know, I know. Regular readers of this page are scratching their heads and asking, “What’s with the ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ up there? And my brothers are patting themselves on the back and saying, “Yesssss! That intervention at Jerry’s house worked. Look, no banjo!”

Well, Karen and I had a great time at Jerry and Kathlene’s house on our California trip in October. But it wasn’t an intervention. We saw stars. We saw wildfires, and  Jerry pulled out a couple of guitars, amps, microphones and we jammed in the living room. Awesome time! Jerry rocks and, yes, I came away with renewed appreciation for my guitar. Along with fun guitar licks and songs such as “Sunny Afternoon,” ”Daydream Believer” and “Folsom Prison Blues.”

But I have not forsaken the banjo. In fact, I’m getting calluses on my calluses from playing both instruments. So, I’m officially back into rock as well as bluegrass.

Thanks Jerry. Thanks Kathlene. Thanks Dana and Evan. Oh, yeah, and Evan, I’m sorry I let go of the string and your kite flew into oblivion! Didn’t your dad tell you about Uncle Mike’s track record?

ASK THE BANJO MASTER

Howdy Mike,
Why did my doctor tell me to stop pickin’? -- Avid Banjo Player, Warren , Mich.
Hi Avid, Shucks, I’m not a doctor, but it seems your M.D. is right. How else is a scab gonna heal? -- Mike

Hey Mike,
Did you and Jerry play “Captain Video” when you were jamming in California ? -- Lake Speed , Nashville , Tenn.
Hey Lake, Nope, we did not do your signature Cockroach song. In fact, we didn’t do any Cockroach songs. Something about having to pay royalties to Bradric Records. -- Mike
