Companies have dumb advertisements.  The more of them I watch, the more I get confused.  But, luckily they now all have web sites with a frequently
asked question page.  That's where I go to unconfuse myself; and when that fails I email them.  This month's question was directed to Charmin.

hello,

i was watching television the other day and noticed an advertisement for one of your products. it involved a large bear telling a little bear not to use so much toilet paper. apparently, you have a new toilet paper that is so thick it reduces the number of sheets a person needs. this got me to thinking. i can't recall ever being told how much toilet paper to use. maybe I was told when I was younger, but I can't remember it. so, i'm asking you; how much toilet paper do I need? normally i use Scott toilet paper. i like the feel of the grit against my dirty area. that roughness tells me i'm scaling away a layer of skin along with the brown stuff. i also us A LOT. i like to ball up a big wad so as to not get doodie on my hands. sometimes after a really messy adventure i end up with so much paper work that the toilet clogs and i have to break things up with a coat hanger. as you can see, this is all contrary to what the large bear on your ad wants me to do. if you could please advise me, i would greatly appreciate it.

just so you know; i weigh about 200 lbs and i'm just under 6 feet tall. i eat mexican food about once every 2 weeks and that's when the majority of my inventory is depleted, if you know what i mean. let me know if you need any other information for your recommendation.

thanks,
ralph

Hi, Ralph.

I'm sorry you weren't happy with the information on our Charmin website, and I'm sharing your comments with the rest of our Team. To be honest, there really isn't an "industry standard" for how much bathroom tissue to use. It depends on the quality of the tissue, personal preference, etc. However, if you're constantly clogging up your toilet, chances are you're using too much. Charmin Ultra is designed for consumers who prefer a soft, thick, and highly absorbent bathroom tissue. Our new and improved Ultra is even more absorbent, so less does more! We hope you'll give this product a try.

Thanks for getting back in touch

thanks for your attempted solution to my problem. i thought you might have some type of primer that you could refer to. my son is nearing the age of potty training. he's a little young to hold a flashlight in his mouth, a mirror in one hand, and a wad of poo squeegee in the other. that's how my parents taught me and i don't want to have to go through the same thing with him.  i thought maybe we could learn, and relearn, how to wipe as a team. it would be a great bonding experience...like with your bears on that ad.

So as you can see, Jill has no idea how much toilet paper to use either. She wouldn't even take a stab at offering me a suggestion.  But in the end,
I got a really cool potty training kit complete with a diploma.
